Claude Walter George Rumbelow was born in Wicken (Newmarket Q1-1923 3B:747), son of Claude Henry and Mildred May RUMBELOW (née CANHAM).

In the 1939 register, the family were at Lode Lane,Wicken. Father Claude Henry [4-8-1898] farm labourer; mother Mildred [2-10-1901]; brother Philip (Charles I.) [3-2-1928] at school. There are 2 closed records.

He seems to have married Edna WILSON, from Sperton, Lancashire (Lancaster Q1-1945 8E:1434).

His uncle Charles William RUMBELOW died in the Army in 1917. see here





He was the only one killed that day from his unit. It seems they were with 51st Highland Division for the Rhine crossing at Rees, about seven miles down stream from Xanten..
